Please comment on this post and tell us how you would make use of the iPads if you were a teacher. If a certain app is needed, please include the name. Here are a few examples:
- If I were a Math teacher, I would use Screen Chomp. I would give my students a problem, then have them work in groups to figure it out. Once they figured it out, I would have them record how they solved it and email it to me. I could review them after class and then share some of the good solutions (or go over errors) with them on the next class day.
- If I were a teacher, I would have a student type notes in Pages and then put them in a shared Dropbox, First Class conference, or Google group for the rest of the class to view.
- If I were a Science teacher, I would use iMovie to record info on a lab and then post it for my students to watch before they come to class on a particular day. I would also have one person in each lab group being in charge of documenting the lab. They would have to record everyone's hypotheses, questions, and participation. Then they would edit it with text and send it to me to review.
- If I were a teacher, I would use iCal to keep track of all my lesson plans. I would use the notes feature to record what I need to go over with my class.
If I were a teacher, I would use the iPad for all my tests. I would make the quizzes on Quizlet and give the students the link by sending it to the students in an e-mail via the FirstClass app. I think that this would be good use of the iPad.
ReplyDeleteBasically what Jordan said but I would also make my projects on it and write papers and prensent different things. I would give my students advice about using the iPad and good apps to use. I would also allow all my students to use the iPad in class
ReplyDeleteIf I were a teacher, I would want my students to especially use the iPad to take notes in any class. I would recommend using an app like Smart Note where you can use a stylus and actually "write" I would recommend this because this would be a good way to easily draw charts and diagrams and write symbols etc. It would be good way for my students to keep track of things, and not loose any note papers.
ReplyDeleteIf I were a teacher, I don't think I would necessarily allow for iPads to be used for tests, unless there were a way to disconnect internet temporarily. I would allow for FaceTime to communicate with other students to help each other out in studying and I would also allow for them to contact me through FaceTime as well for any further tutoring or questions. I wouldn't trust textbooks on iPads just yet, unless the school updated all textbooks to current editions since those are the only ones available. I would definitely encourage note taking of any sort.
ReplyDeleteIf I were a teacher and all my students had an iPad, I would have them use keynote to create a presentation. Keynote is simple and only gives you the bare minimum of choices, so presentations don't get bogged down by fancy slide-changes and horribly blurry backgrounds. Each iPad is incredibly easy to plug into a projector, so that would eliminate "oh it dIdn't email correctly" or "I forgot to email it" or "I lost my pen drive," all of which can and have been used as excuses for not completing a presentation (I am not exempt from this atrocious act, though I don't think I've ever actually gotten away with it...)
ReplyDeleteIf I were a teacher I would have my students use keynote to make presentations. This is great because they can use the iPads in class and then the students could work on the project at home as well. Another great thing that this allows is hooking the iPad up to the active board which is much faster then separate computers, flash drives, or email. (using the iPad also cuts back the "it didn't save" or "it didn't email") If I were a teacher I would also have my students use an app to organize all of their work. For example Complete Class Organizer. And also apps to take notes or hand write notes.
ReplyDeleteIf I were a teacher I would have students write outlines for their papers or papers on pages so that in class we could easily go over it and they could make corrections while in class. I would have all my students export everything to dropbox so that they can access it at any time and have them use noterize so they're taking notes so their notes are legible, clean, easy to access from dropbox, and can be written in the way that helps the students best, and so they can record my lectures. I would also email my keynote presentation to all of them and my own lecture as well as some extra helpful hints over iMovie so they could listen to it again, and go over it again if they didn't fully understand it or are studying for a test. I would also make them have lots of news apps so if we needed an update in class they could just take out their iPads.
ReplyDeleteIf I were a math teacher I would have my students use penultimate, so that they could write down equations with the stylus and record notes for math. I would also have my students use Noterize so that they could write with the stylus and write out their homwork. Then they could send it to me using their first class account.
ReplyDeleteIf I were a teacher and I allowed iPads in my classroom, I would allow use of the iPads for certain things. For example, I would use them for my students to take quizzes. I would also allow my students to take notes on presentations by using the same iPad app, Noterize. If there was a drawing that they had to copy, instead of actually drawing it with markers and crayons, they would use a drawing app. For this, they would also have to have a stylus, which would be provided.
ReplyDeleteIf I were a teacher, I would use the iPads to make the students email me the assignments. This would decrease chances of people losing and forgetting their homework. Hopefully this would increase class productivity in total.
ReplyDeleteIf I were a math teacher I would have my students download the Khan Academy app to that they could watch videos about what I was teaching them. If I were a home base teacher I would get mys students to send me their writing assignments or put it in Dropbox so that I could look at and comment on it. If I were a science teacher then I would have my students download biology apps so that they could look at diagrams and study from it.
ReplyDeleteIf I were a science teacher I would have all of my students take notes in pages and then save them in dropbox. I would also scan the pages of the textbook we would be using or use some kind of digital copy and send it to my students. It would be very useful not to have to ever carry a big heavy textbook and you can take notes directly on the book.

ReplyDeleteIf I were a teacher, I would have almost everything on the iPad. Say I was a JH home base teacher. First, I would have my textbook(s) on the iPad. It would make it much easier on the students to just pull out their iPad to use the textbook than to have a big, heavy textbook. The students would be required to use the notes feature of the textbook app they are using to take notes on and highlight the textbook.
ReplyDeleteNext, for note taking, they could use either Penultimate, uPad, or Noteshelf for handwritten notes. If they would prefer to type notes, they could use either Pages or Notability. Thirdly, for assignments, I would put them in Dropbox and send them the link. They would do the same with their assignments: they could use Email to Dropbox to send their assignments from Pages to their Dropbox and send me the link to view them.
For quizzes and tests, I would also use the iPad: they would, of course, not be allowed to use the Internet while taking a quiz (maybe there's a way to block it or something temporarily?). I would need to really trust the students to not use the internet. When I made presentations for class, I would email them to the students as PDFs to put in iBooks for future reference. Finally, lit books would all be on the iPad for them to read, highlight, take notes in, etc., which is very easy to do on the iPad.
If I were a teacher I would share an iCal calendar on my iPad so all of the students could see there assignments show up right on there iPad. I would have all of my students use "notability" for note taking because it has features that are good to use in every class. Especially drawings in math and science. Short projects being done in class could be done in notability and then e-mailed to me. I would require all of my students to back up their notes using dropbox. Students could have the textbook on their iPad and I would send out handouts via e-mail so they could be saved in pages and or notability. I would not allow my students to use the iPad during a test.

If I were a teacher I would let my students use their iPads for doing practice tests, and looking up things we are talking about in class. I would also make them find the best note apps that work for them, that includes recording, typing, and highlighting... Such as: EverNote, Paper desk, DocAs, and many more...
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't want to choose a specific one for them, because all students are different. Some may like complicated apps, and some may like simple apps. I like more simple apps, because they are faster, and easier to take out and use.
If I were a science teacher I would use my iPad for explaining cells. I would plug my iPad into a projector and using the app POMT(power of minus ten) I would show students the cells inside a human hand. If I was teaching about photosynthesis I would use VCell to show videos of it.
ReplyDeleteIf I were a teacher I would use the Keynote app for notes and presentations and plug it into the projector. I would use iCal for class scheduling and check email and update my webpage with the iPad. I would show Ted talks on the iPad with the TED app and have people follow along on the Internet of stuff we do in class. I would probably take pop quizzes the way we had our iPad meeting where there is a survey and the answer would pop up only when everyone had answered. It would be anonomously on the board but I would be able to review who said what. I would probably use all books/textbooks on the iPad, especially if it was a lit class.
ReplyDeleteIf I were a teacher, I would give out iPads to all my students and they could look things up in class. Instead of making them write homework in a notebook, I would just email them the assignments and they could do it on their iPad.
ReplyDeleteIf i were a teacher, i would send documents for students to read instead of making hand copies and wasting paper. The students would have to pull up the PDF file on their iPads, upload into Noterize( a note taking app) where they'll have to actively take notes on the file( jotting down main ideas, highlighting, underlining, etc).
ReplyDeleteIf I were a teacher I would have a class wiki and post all assignments in it and they can transfer them to pages to fill out and send it to me. I would also do that for tests and quizzes so that I wouldn't have to keep track of a bunch of different papers

I would in courage my students to get noterize with a pen. Then I would have them type the letter notes and write out ant solve the math problems, that way I could see their work, while they save paper. After they took the notes I would have them keep the notes on their iPad.
ReplyDeleteIf I were a teacher, I would plan my lesson around being able to use the iPad(s) effeciently. I would make my notes in keynote and instruct my class to use iCal for them to keep track of when upcoming quizzes or tests were due. If I had a paper/ essay due, I'd have them use dropbox, or google docs to keep up with everything.
ReplyDeleteIf i were a teacher, I would encourage my students to take notes during any classes, and to make any notes to their hearts content. I would tell my students to not print out their homework assignment but email to me, and have the document open on the ipad during the class.
ReplyDeleteIf I were a teacher, I would encourage my students to use their iPads to take notes during classes and email homework assignments. This would help students to be more organized because they can use a note taking app that allows for the creation of folders/notebooks so all of their notes are easy to access because they are all in one place. Also, emailing homework assignments would help to reduce the amount of paper being used daily by each student.

If I were a teacher, I would have the students take notes in history or lit on pages, and then study from that. I would want them to take the notes on the story/chapter and then go in and fill in things that are important or that they think would be on test. Then they could study their notes and hopefully be prepared on the day of the given quiz/test.
ReplyDeleteIf I were a teacher I would have students use iPads to make presentations. I would have them use keynote. I would also have students use iPads for research. They could either switch between safari and whatever note taking app they wanted to use. They could also just hand write their notes. I would also have them take in-class notes on iPads.
ReplyDeleteIf I were a Social Studies teacher, I would allow the students to write down information on Pages. I would allow them to research things that they aren't quite sure about. Then I would have a web page where everyone puts there helpful notes on, so that other students who missed helpful information could use it.
ReplyDeleteIf I were a teacher, I would have my students take all of their notes on pages, so they could take pictures and insert them into the notes for extra help. I would also have them do all of their assignments on the iPad in pages, and email them to me. They would also be able to share notes for further help. I would also have them use dropbox to keep their notes and homework organized and easy to access.
ReplyDeleteIf I were a teacher, I would have one student take a video in iMovie of class every day for students who are absent or want to review lectures at home. I would encourage the students to use a note taking app of their choice during class. At the end of each unit, I would have the students use iMovie to create a video about a topic of their choice within the unit. If I were a lit teacher, I would have students read books on the iPad so they could mark in it and look up words as they go.
ReplyDeleteIf I were the teacher, I would use dragon dictation to have all of the notes copied. I would then have it posted on my website so that everyone could see what we went over in class. If I were a math teacher, I would use an IPad to have the notes taken with a stylist on an app that supported it. I would then send the notes to the kids using either dropbox or evernote. This is because I think these apps are a great way to save papers.
ReplyDeleteIf I were a teacher, I would use my ipad to make presentations of notes and things that we're learning, and I would have the students use the ipads to take notes and save them to dropbox or something. That way everybody could look at other peoples notes and make sure they got everything down in class.
ReplyDeleteIf I were a teacher I would have my students take notes on the Notability app and then send them to dropbox or post them to our website for anybody who might have been absent. Since you can also record lectures in the Notability app, I would have students record the lecture while they are taking notes. I would also have textbooks o the iPads because it would be much easier to carry around, and the students would have one less thing to remember. Not to mention their backpacks wouod be ten times lighter.
ReplyDeleteIf I were a teacher, I would have students all take notes on the same lecture on pages, telling them to use the same format, then have them upload it all to a googledoc and from there I would take the best parts of each set of notes and create a big master set that everybody could study off of for the test. This is sort of what Cullen's class does, but only one person takes notes, and it is on a laptop. I think that having one person record the lecture and posting it on a blog or a googledoc would also be very helpful.
ReplyDeleteIf I were a teacher then I would use the iPads for math such as graphs. I would also use the iPads for handouts where everyone could just get on their device as opposed to having to print out a lot of paper.
ReplyDeleteIf I were a teacher, I would have all my students take notes in Pages and share them with me on Dropbox. Also, I would put all the books/PDFs my students have to read and take notes on Dropbox so they can do so on their iPad. In addition, I would encourage all my students to use iStudiez Pro- and I could even put their grades in it.

If I were teacher, I would create a Dropbox for the class to use to turn in assignments and record lectures and then take notes from them. I would have the student write down assignments in Reminders.
ReplyDeleteIf I were a teacher, I would have my students use an app like Whiteboard to wirelessly connect their iPads to an iPad that's connected to a projector. The students would then be able to write on the projector screen from their desks – like a remote control ActivBoard. This could make for much more efficient use of class time, as getting up and grabbing the e-pen from the previous user often takes as much time as actually writing on the board.
